This educational tour covers the most important area of aromatic plants, herbs and ornamental of Italy.
In the Po valley, visits include medicinal and aromatic crops (e.g. Mentha piperita, Passiflora, Artemisia spp., Satureja hortensis, Hypericum perforatum, Hyssopus officinalis, Salvia Sclarea, Matricaria chamomilla, Melissa officinalis, Malva silvestris, Echinacea spp., Coriandrum sativum, Taraxacum officinalis, Cnicus benedictus) and the after harvesting processing procedures: drying and essential oil extraction.
The mountain areas presents medicinal and aromatic plants cultivated under organic and biodynamic farming (Melissa officinalis, Lavandula angustifolia, Thymus vulgaris, Satureja hortensis, etc) with essential oil extraction facilities built near by the fields.
Finally, close by the Mediterranean sea, the visit of the Riviera in the Liguria Region includes the district of Albenga where more than 18 million of pots per year of all sort of aromatic plants and herbs are produced and the district of Sanremo specialized in ornamental.
While discovering the diversity of the medicinal, aromatic and ornamental plant production of Northwest of Italy, the tour includes interaction with technicians, professionals and academicians at the Faculty of Agriculture.
